Blow past creative blocks.

15 musicians. A new project each week. Weekly themes to spark creativity. Regular Zoom calls. Ongoing Discord community. Starts April 21.

Hi there!

I'm Ian, the founder of Soundfly. I love thinking about the creative process — all the inexplicable ways art can tumble out of us into the world.

But I've also found that for me personally, creating the best art and music requires a degree of structure. I need deadlines. I need accountability. I need goals and guidance and support.

So that's the goal of this program: to get a bunch of musicians together to make music every week in a five-week creative blitz. You'll make DRAFTS and listen to the ECHOES that sprout from them (and each other). We'll engage with weekly themes intended to spark creativity, hop on calls to support each other, engage on Discord to share inspiration, and produce work to a weekly deadline.

You can be a producer, a songwriter, or a composer. You can play rock, EDM, or Hungarian chant metal. It doesn't matter. The idea is simply to support each other in creating.

I hope by the end of this course that you will come out feeling more confident in your ability to generate creative output — as well as taking big strides forward in your own music, including multiple new songs to share with the world.

Looking forward to it,
Ian Temple

Creativity doesn't have to happen alone.

It's so hard to create with endless space and no constraints. I've structured this program to support action. Each week, we'll have creative prompts you can draw from, and social accountability to help you stick to your goals. We'll be supporting each other to take strides with our learning.

“I came for one course and stayed to take many others not only because of the quality of the courses but also because of the Soundfly community. It can be scary and daunting as an artist to know if you have made progress in your craft, and this community has become central to my practice. From getting feedback from experts to my peers, I am so grateful to have this incredible resource!”

FAQ

  • What is this?

DRAFT // ECHO is a five week "lab" for people who make music to make a lot of music and level up their art, with support from a host (me) and other musicians.

  • How does it work?

Each week, there will be a weekly theme to spark creativity, two Zoom calls (a short DRAFT call on Tuesdays to get inspired, and a longer ECHO call on Fridays to share), a weekly project you commit to, and a Discord server where you can chat, get help, and share inspiration.

  • Is there a Soundfly member discount?

Of course! Always. Email [email protected] if you're a Soundfly subscriber, and you can get 25% off the price.

  • What if I can't make the calls?

You can definitely still participate. I'll share a recording of the DRAFT call each week, so you can check it out on your own time. The ECHO call will be more participatory so we won't record it, but if you miss that, you can still participate in the Discord or via email.

  • What's the refund policy?

I'm always happy to consider a refund request within the first week after the course has started, or in cases of unforeseen exigencies.

  • What will I learn?

This isn't so much a course, persay. It's more of an accelerator. I definitely hope to share some insights on the creative process that may help you, and I hope you'll also learn from your fellow musicians and from the act of making music — but we won't be teaching production or theory or anything like that.
